The course prepares students and develops
their English language skills to a level
that will enable them to achieve success
in the Cambridge First Certificate in English
examination. The SA Adelaide Language
Centre provides a supportive and positive
learning environment so that students can
develop their full potential.
The course is designed for students
of at least lower intermediate level
who wish to sit the First Certificate
in English examination.
It is expected that students will have
completed approximately 300
hours of study of English
before commencing the course.
The course consists of 25 hours
of English language tuition per
week, organised as follows:

Coursework
Students will use a core text to develop their English language skills.
Reading Skills
Students study a wide variety of supplementary reading materials.
Writing Skills
Students use a wide variety of materials to develop their ability to write
specified text types.
Listening Skills
Students listen to a wide variety of materials to develop their aural comprehension.
Speaking Skills
Students have a wide variety of opportunities to develop and practise oral
skills.
Grammar
Intensive study in particular areas of difficulty.
Vocabulary Development
Students are offered a wide range of exercises and techniques for learning
and using vocabulary items.
Supervised Study
Students may pursue areas of English language related to their personal needs
and interests. A teacher is available for consultation, one-to-one tuition,
clarification or follow-up of class work.
Excursions
Excursions may be included from time to time.
Mock Exams
Mock Exams are held to familiarise students with all aspects of the examination.
Intensive Exam Practice
Students are given intensive exam practice to increase their confidence and
to help them to focus on the examination requirements.
